Why not r via conda?

I have no personal experience with using the Anaconda R and RStudio distribution, but I can offer as anecdata some reports of at least one serious problem with anaconda-installed RStudio IDE that have cropped up here. It’s totally murky to me what the source of this problem was (and maybe it wouldn’t have occurred in an IT-managed environment), but it seemed to resolve when people re-installed directly from RStudio-provided downloads.

RStudio crash on open (downloaded with Anaconda)

I downloaded RStudio last week via Anaconda along with r-essentials and it worked fine. I came back from vacation today and loaded up RStudio, and now it crashes on open and gives this window: [image] And no matter what I click it crashes immediately afterwards. R does not launch properly

Hi, I've encountered a problem recently with my R program. I use to open it through Anaconda Navigator, by pressing the "launch" button, but at some point R did not start properly. The Rstudio window pops up and is totally blank, then disappears and opens my document folder, asking to "Download File". I have the choice to choose a file and press save or to cancel, but nothing happens if I just click one random document and press save... Thank you for your time!

Rstudio asking to save something on startup, failing to launch

Rstudio is suddenly failing to launch and is instead prompting me to save an unknown file. I've tried using different versions as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Anaconda, nothing has worked. Has anyone encountered a similar problem and solved it? [rstudio%20error]

Also, in at least one instance RStudio folks have remarked here that they don’t support Anaconda installations of the IDE, so I guess you’d be more-on-your-own-than-usual?:

Sorry, but we don't support Anaconda installations of R or RStudio. The error related to SumatraPDF.exe seems to imply you tried to reinstall RStudio while RStudio (or its bundled Sumatra PDF) was already open. Closing your PDF viewer (and as a last ditch resort, restarting your machine) should resolve that.
