Stop sidebar from reloading during latex compiles

I've used RStudio for 5 years but in recent months I've noticed that after clicking "Knit", the "View PDF" window that appears has started to include a sidebar obscuring the content: https://mebden.com/misc/sidebar.png Each time I run knit, I need to click the icon for "Toggle Sidebar" to make it go away. (And I use the "View PDF" window so frequently that it's annoying to toggle this sidebar repeatedly.) Today I upgraded from 1.4.1103 to 1.4.1106 but the problem is still there. I've done a search on the Help documentation, and tried resizing the "View PDF" window to move the sidebar out of the way -- but RStudio always forgets the most recent window size, so that didn't work. I used to use Rstudio for latex on a linux machine, but after switching to Mac, after extended effort I couldn't get Mac Preview to sync with the latex code, so I chose the Rstudio PDF viewer, but every single time I compile the latex code, it reloads the sidebar. It's unbelievably annoying and disruptive, since I'm used to compiling every 20 seconds or so to avoid developing hard-to-find errors or bugs.

Loading the sidebar shrinks my pdf to a size where I can't read the text, so I have to navigate to the toggle sidebar button and shrink the sidebar every single time I compile my latex. Please can someone help me to disable the sidebar from reloading?
