Why does clearing my DNS Cache make RStudio open faster?

For me, on both Windows and Mac, the amount of time it takes to open/load the RStudio desktop app is significantly reduced if I first clear the DNS Cache as suggest by this post:

Why? What is RStudio doing that involves the IP addresses of recently accessed webpages?
