Using the variants endpoint to create new variants

Hello,

Here is my use case: I'd like to programmatically supply a parameter which varies daily to an rmarkdown report and create a new variant for each daily value.

Hi all, Thanks a lot for this question and the answers that have been provided already. We've had the exact same use case as @dwhdai , and the solution provided worked a charm - absolutely brilliant! Given this post was last active over a year ago, I just thought I'd check - the connectapi package and the functions used in this example still appear to be experimental and come with warnings when used. Before I build in too much reliance on this method... Does anyone know if there is a more "conventional" method out there now, or is this pretty much still the go-to? Many thanks!

Hi all, I'm trying to track down an RStudio Connect API endpoint that I have no such luck. I can't seem to find anything that is related to variants in the API reference (RStudio Connect API Reference). However, in the rstudio/connectapi github, there is the variant class and is linked to get_variants(), get_default_variant() and get_variant(). And there is a render_variant() that is immensely useful to me, but I don't know how to call it via the API. I very much realize I'm dealing with non-public apis but I am wondering if:

a) there is a way to render a report with particular parameter value using the connect api? &
b) whether there is a way to assign that newly created report to a new variant also with the connect api?

Unfortunately there is no API endpoint currently that you can use to set parameter values. However, the RStudio Connect team is actively exploring options for enabling this type of workflow. Stay tuned!
