Use of glmnet for non linear terms

Hello
I am using glmnet package in R and a couple of the terms are nonlinear, i.e using exponential or quadratic terms. So far glmnet is working, no warnings. Since it's GLMnet, how does it deal with the non-linear? Any thoughts/references much appreciated.
