Two step process to open RStudio

I have been having difficulties with RStudio since I upgraded RStudio and R.
I now have a two step process. To open RStudio. The first step is to click on the icon in my tray at the bottom of the screen. That produces a blue dot with a white R logo in the middle of my screen. I then right-click on the icon in the tray to close the blue dot. I then click on the icon again to open RStudio which is slow to open. It also retains zero or more of my previously open tabs. I cannot discern the pattern.

Any ideas on what to do?
