I wanted to creat a new column to filter wheter happend in Texas or a different state. This new variable is called "Istexas", but i get only negative results.

From what I can make out, there's probably an easier way to approach this. I'll used a ginned up data frame.

The errors are happening because of this line:
else {data[I, ]$Istexas <- FALSE}}data}
data needs to go on a new line.
The first closing brace: FALSE}}data}: this ends the else statement.
The second closing brace: FALSE}}data}: this ends the for statement.
Now data is showing up as an extra variable at the end of a finished statement, with no operator or extra code to say what it does. So R says it was an "unexpected symbol" and doesn't even try to run the code.
