Teaching option for Positron on Ipad and/or in the Cloud

I am teaching an intro data science course in January. For most students, it is straightforward to install R/Positron on their laptops. But some students only have ipads or other tablets.

  1. Can a student run Positron on an Ipad and/or other tablet? (I see that it is possible to run R.)

  2. I see that Positron is available on Positron Workbench. Is this the recommended approach for students without laptops? Or is there a cheaper option, like Posit Cloud for RStudio?

For students without laptops, cost is often a major concern.

I think for January, we are not likely to have an standalone option that works for students working on iPads unfortunately.

This is something we have plans for in the slightly longer term, targeting classes in fall 2026. If you are interested in teaching with Positron, check out what we say at:

You can get a free license for Workbench today, but we have heard that administering it may be a bit of a heavy lift for many stats or data science professors; this will of course vary by individual interests and experience!

If you want to ask more about Worbench for the short term or be in the loop for info on teaching use for Positron in the slightly longer term, reach out at academic-licenses@posit.co.

Thanks! This is very helpful.
