Syntax highlighting: "Highlight R function calls" not working (Linux)

Hello!
I just installed RStudio on Linux, I noticed R keywords were not highlighted so I turned ON the option to do so from 'Global options -> Code -> Display -> Highlight R function calls'. I thought that should solve my problem, but it does not... what other things can I try?

System details:

RStudio Edition: Desktop
RStudio version: 
    - (From inside RStudio, Help > About RStudio) "Cherry Blossom" Release (6e31ffc3, 2023-05-09) for Ubuntu Jammy
   -  (And from command line, $ rstudio --version)    2023.03.1+446.
OS: Linux Mint 21.1 x86_64, kernel 5.15.0-56-generic
R version: 4.1.2 (2021-11-01)

Note: the color theme works fine.
