Stalled Code Execution

I am using: R version 3.2.3 (2015-12-10) -- "Wooden Christmas-Tree" due to security concerns/approval processes at my work place.

I've had R/RStudio generally perform well, however, recently when I open RStudio basically any interaction with the IDE stalls and never completes. This includes executing code as simple as 1+1, quitting the IDE, attempting to open global options. Really anything I try to do. The drop down menus at the open work but clicking nearly any option within the drop one does not respond.

I've been able to work around this issue by starting a new session then using Task Manager to force quit the initial RStudio window which does not function (2 RStudios appear in the Task Manager).

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to resolve this issue or what the cause is?
