some questions about the whitespace

i am new to rstudio and the whitespace rule troubled me. i have to use whitespace when use <- <= + - and so on. it means i always have to tap the whitespace twice when use them. is it a little time-consuming? i have know that ctrl- could insert the <-, is there any more good keyshortcut like this?

I'm on the Elspeth release and don't see that rule. I can enter either

(o<-2+3)
(o <- 2 + 3)

with the same results.
