I recently built a gallery of energy data visualizations covering electricity
generation, fossil fuels, renewables, emissions, oil production, country
comparisons, and animated bar chart races.

visually.

Bar chart races are interesting and sometimes useful, but too many of them defeats a purpose of telling a story. Perhaps start with the story...
That's a human, natural response:
This is a really interesting project. There are a lot of pieces of data related to energy, and sometimes it can be tricky to make sense of the trends, so visual storytelling is a good way to make energy trends more understandable.
I really love the idea of static infographics and animated rankings/bar chart races as this helps the user to know how things are changing over time. I believe that more interactive filters (country, year range, energy source, emissions level, etc.) would make the visualisations even more useful to improve the workflow.
If users could see consistent colour schemes for categories such as renewables, fossil fuels and emissions, they would be able to pick up on patterns more quickly. Including a short explanation or key takeaway with charts might help make them easier to understand for those who aren't energy data savvy.
Generally, it is a useful overview of world energy developments. I hope it turns out great!
