That is an ancient version. RStudio only supports the current and two most recent versions—currently Ventura, Monterrey and Big Sur. Running on High Sierra might be possible but could also be the source of the problem. I don't have a box running High Sierra, so I don't want to try to guide you through troubleshooting this further, since I can't check against a working system. Under Ventura RStudio works well without
.../../Frameworks/libssl.1.1.dylib
and there were some recent changes in my Linux OS versions that changed the way SSL works.
My advice would be to back up everything and upgrade to Ventura and come back if RStudio continues to crash.
All models of MacBook introduced in 2017 or later can be upgraded. Click the apple in the upper left hand corner and choose About. On the second line it will give you the year. If that's good, open the App Store and search "macos ventura" and "Get." Depending on your connection speed, it can take a few hours to download and install. Be patient.
