RStudio 2024.09.1+394 Session Aborted due to fatal error trying to do anything

I am looking for some advice.

I am attempting to re-install rstudio after some time since using it in college (same computer). Anytime I try to do anything -- install packages, access files, run anything at all -- I get a "R Session Aborted R encountered a fatal error. This session is terminated" message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled R and RStudio a few times with the same results. I do have an older computer, but it seems like everything should still run alright from my lookings.

I have a 2015 Macbook Pro running MacOS Monterey version 12.7.6 and I have R 4.5.1 GUI 1.82 Big Sur Intel build (8536) installed and I have RStudio 2024.09.1+394 installed.

Does this sound like the right software to have installed for RStudio to run smoothly? If yes, what could be some other things that could cause my issue?

Does resetting RStudio's state help?

I'm having the same issue - no resetting the state did not help.
(2015 Macbook Pro running MacOS Monterey version 12.7.6 and I have R 4.5.1 GUI too)
Any other ideas?
R by itself with out RStudio seems to work, but the IDE is useful for my work.

Thanks in advance.

Get this no matter what I do... (simple x<-2 caused this).

Is there anything interesting in the RStudio log file? I think that security software (firewall, antivirus, ...) sometimes interferes with RStudio connecting to R.

Older versions of RStudio cannot always use the latest releases of R and many people have been hitting this particular crash.

You'll need to downgrade to R 4.4.1; that should fix this problem.
