Request: solution to make RStudio more accessible when using high contrast settings (Win OS)

TL;DR: RStudio forces adopting the Windows OS high contrast (HC) settings (rather than this being a choice). This creates compatibility issues, which renders RStudio partially inaccessible. I'm looking for a solution.

Unfortunately, currently RStudio is not compatible with Windows OS high contrast (HC) settings. I have tried all the themes, but to no avail: I cannot see colour anywhere. It is very difficult to see what I am selecting. Multiple functions are not visible. I can barely see what I have and have not ticked etc. In short, there are many HC incompatibility issues that make RStudio inaccessible.

The advice of RStudio is: turn off Win OS HC settings. Of course, this is not an actual solution as many of us who use HC settings need it.

The solution should be: do not think/decide for users; let users decide which theme they want to use - incl the option to adopt or not OS HC settings.

For some reason or another, everything after the # is now in italic.
.# So it looks like this [if you ignore the initial dot]
This is not perfect, but a good interim solution; however it is a partial one.

Now I hoped for another interim solution. I hoped that someone here would know how to bolden in one of these ways:

  • everything that is code outside of what is in between (two) double quotation marks is boldened -- this has my preference
  • everything that is code inside (two) double quotation marks is boldened

This would enable the HC user of RStudio to quickly identify what is correctly or incorrectly coded.

That would greatly aide my learning and use of R and RStudio.

If you have a solution, can you please explain this at very elementary level (I'm very beginner!)

Greatly appreciate all your help!
