registering for posit.cloud in China: needs a VPN for the sign up page

Hi, i will be running an R course in China in April, and we have discovered that students need to use a VPN to be able to sign up for posit.cloud when in China. After signing up, posit.cloud can be run without a VPN. Thus, there is something on your signup page that is blocked in China (probably the Google link).

Hi Douglas,

During the sign up process reCAPTCHA (from Google) is used. It seems that is blocked in China. As you noted, using a VPN during the sign up process should help get around this and then anytime you are just doing a normal log in and not sign up, you shouldn't need a VPN.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! We will look into updating our documentation to let people know they will need a VPN for the sign up process if they are connecting from China.
