Reading mtx file

Hi everyone, I am new to R and interested to learn Social Network using R. Currently I am stuck on reading mtx file.

I have spend a lot time to search via Google about reading mtx file and could not find the answer.

The problem:

  1. Downloaded soc-karate.mtx file from karate | Social Networks | Network Data Repository

  2. Then tried the following as per https://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/Matrix/html/externalFormats.html:
    str(pores<-readMM(system.file("soc-karate.mtx",package="Matrix")))

  3. It just shows:
    1:
