I have been trying to use RStudio on my MacBook. I used to use it all the time circa 2023 and never had any issues, however I have now come back to using it and after updating both R and RStudio I am unable to use it. Anytime I do anything after creating an RMarkdown it comes up with the message 'R session aborted. R encountered a fatal error. The session was terminated' and forces me to start a new session. Does anyone have any tips to help me sort this? TIA
What versions of R and RStudio are you using? (R 4.5.0 requires a recent version of RStudio.) Also, does resetting RStudio's state help?
I'm using R version 4.5.0 and RStudio Version 2024.09.1+394, however have also tried using RStudio 2022 and 2023. Typing anything into the console also causes the session to abort so I can't seem to reset the state
I think 2024.09.1 is too old an RStudio version to work with R 4.5. From other posts, I gather the December '24 release works. The current release is 2025.05.0. Can you install that?
Yes that seems to have sorted the issue! I had been hesitant to download 2025 as it said it wouldn't work with my MacOS but so far doesn't seem to have any problems. Thank you so much!
