R Markdown Preview Not Working in Window or Viewer Pane

Hello. Without any obvious reason for the change (e.g., no update to either RStudio or R) when I knit to HTML, I no longer get a preview either in a new window or in the viewer pane. Switching the preferences in global options doesn't do anything and I have tried resetting the internal state and nothing changed. The actual HTML file is created correctly, there just isn't a preview in RStudio.
