"R is taking longer to start than usual" on RStudio Server Linux

Hello Posit Community,

we have encountered a performance issue regarding RStudio Server Sessions during start or restart.
Users get a gray screen at the start of the session and after a while, it either loads the session or give an "R is taking longer to start than usual" message.

Clicking either of the 3 options gives the same response: gray screen and takes ages to load, even if the previous session is empty

We have an RStudio Server v2025.09, R v4.4.3, running on a Linux RHEL8 Machine.

There are no errors present in the journal and neither a high resource (RAM, CPU, etc) use.
This is happening on 2 out of 3 Servers with identical configurations.

How can we analyse this further? What could be the potential solutions?

While I am sorry to not offer you any more advice, I can confirm I experienced the same behavior in 2023 when I set up RStudio Server on Ubuntu WSL following the instructions on RStudio's website. Two installs on different machines (though same hardware config) suffered this issue after running fine directly after install. On both systems I tried what I could with my limited WSL/Linux knowledge, but I ended up abandoning RStudio Server entirely because of it.
