Abstract
Our website shows data on reported bigfoot sightings in Washington state over the past 100 years. As the user scrolls through the website they should get a feeling like they are inside a forest and at a campfire.
There is a parallax effect that brings the user under the forest treeline, a campfire gif accompanied by a description of bigfoot sightings, and a plot showing the number of bigfoot sightings over time. Finally, as the user scrolls there is an interactive map that adds new bigfoot sighting data points per time period/scroll trigger. The user can zoom in on the map and click on the bigfoot icons to read about specific sightings.
Outside of the closeread section there is a full shiny app embedded into the site with more options to explore the map. The site has a 'data' page linked where we have more details about our data sources, how the closeread sections work technically with code examples, and we have an 'about' page with short bios of the authors.
