it seems to be broken. I no longer can move the console to the right using the pane layout under tools _> Global options. Only the default setting of source and console on the left seems to work. anyone has an idea how to change that.

thanks for the hint you got me on the right track. I was not sure how to find the files to reset and therefore I had the idea to open a template project as this might work to reset the setting and it actually did. So I created a new project from template, changed the pane arrangement there and then all my previous projects worked again [I could change the pane layout to my preferences].
