Package installation for student with Windows 11

I have a student that's attempting to use R and Rstudio for the first time. We have successfully installed R and Rstudio but, it has to be an older version of R (3.3.1) for reasons we don't understand as of yet. This could be a compounded problem because now no packages will load (mainly, tidyverse). The packages always fail via non-zero exit.

I have tried to install via binaries for windows (e.g. win.binary) but this has also not worked. Has anyone else experienced this issue and can help out? Thank you!

That is a very old version of R and the current tidyverse does not support it.

Older versions of packages could be potentially installed (e.g. from a P3M snapshot), but you'll have to show us the error messages you are seeing.
