Scrolling upwards in the edit window (by moving the scrollbar up) often freezes the IDE and requires a force quit. I did not have it happen when I use the up arrow key.
I have your configuration except for RStudio version, and don't have the problem.

You might try downversioning to see if that relieves the problem.

Is R working normally with the R.app GUI or from the terminal?
From the terminal R is fine. But in the terminal there is no scrolling in the editor window. I do not use R.app.
