Help with interactive models

Hi, I'm trying to run some additive & interaction models with the mgcv package. The additive models are working fine, but I'm unable to get the interaction models to run as I keep getting the same error code:

Error in smoothCon(split$smooth.spec[[i]], data, knots, absorb.cons, scale.penalty = scale.penalty, :
Can't find by variable

Now the same dataset and model code works on my colleague's R studio and the interaction models are running perfectly. We have all the same packages installed, I have also tried uninstalling & reinstalling R studio, running the model through R, updating all my packages, and tried to run it on another computer but I keep getting the same error code.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue could be?
