Group for data science in ecology?

Hi there!

I have just joined the RStudio Community, though I've been using R for about 3 years now. I am wondering if there is a group for R users in the field of ecology and/or natural systems modeling. I am about to enter my last semester of undergrad majoring in Ecosystem Science and minoring in Data Science. As I've started to do more ecological data analysis in R, I've found that while there are plenty of packages containing useful functions, there doesn't seem to be a centralized online community for people in that field. I've struggled with several of the packages made for ecological data analysis so I think it would be great to have a group where people familiar with ecology in R can help each other. Does something like this already exist? If not, is there interest in one and how would I go about starting such a group? Thanks!

You might check with the UC Davis R Users Group (D-RUG). A number of the participants are ecologists.

Hi @emarwell67, the rOpenSci community isn't purely ecology-focused, but is probably a good place to start. It certainly includes many ecologists. Check out their website/discussion forum/etc here: https://ropensci.org/community/

UC Santa Barbara also has a group specific to eco/data science intersection:

There is also an email list that is fairly active:

Thanks all! I'm excited to check out all of these.
