My name is Samuel Bharti and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, working on rare diseases and cancers, particularly focusing on Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and the cancers associated with it. I spent this summer as a software engineering intern on the Shiny team at Posit. In three short months, I built 10 open-source applications and 5 supporting packages for computational biology, across R, Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript. Some are tools researchers can use directly. Others sit underneath those applications and solve recurring infrastructure problems.
