Exiting Full screen mode in RStudio under Windows 11

I realise that it would be helpful if I could explain how I got into this mess, but I cannot! I have been using RStudio for several years with no issues, until last week when everything went wrong. I believe that it was something I typed (an unintended key combination?) but the effect was devasting. RStudio appeared to create a new session and simultaneously went into full screeen mode - and from there I cannot budge it. Re-starting RStudio simply returns me to this full screen mode from which I cannot escape without asking Windows 11 to abort the session. Finally today, I removed RStudio and then reinstalled it and, as you may well guess, it took me to my full screen mode. I would be humbly grateful for any help...

Try resetting RStudio Desktop's State

I've cure similar but not so nasty problems with this approach.

Many thanks, John.

I believe that I am on the road to recovery!

F11 will toggle between full-screen and regular. This is bound to the command "Toggle Full Screen" which is on the View menu. The menus are hidden in full-screen but will appear if you tap the Alt key (or use Alt+V to go directly to the View menu).

Or you can use the Command Palette: Ctrl+Shift+P then type "Toggle Full Screen" to show the command.

Thanks for the info, Gary, but I have now successfully reinstalled RStudio.

Best regards
