Error when importing species data from GBIF.org using "gbif" functon

Error in gsub(reStrip, " ", completions, perl = TRUE) : **
** input string 5 is invalid UTF-8

I sometimes get the above mentioned error when importing data from GBIF for some species using "dismo" package and in particular "gbif" function. Could any one explain to me what it means? Thanks alot.
