In earlier versions of Rstudio, the choice of theme would determine the background color for the two left panes, but the two right panes would have the default background color of white. In the current version, the choice of theme determines the background color for all four panes. I found the choice of a black background for code, but a white background for help pages, easiest to work with. Please consider offering the option to have the choice of theme affect the two left columns only, or the option to choose different themes for left and right.

Have you tried Classic Rstudio theme?
Go to Tools -> Clobal Options -> Appearance -> RStudio Theme, and then choose Classic instead of Modern or Sky.
