Out of curiousity, does anyone know why ggplot2 chose to call opacity/transparency alpha? I had not heard of this term before, and it seems kind of unintuitive. But maybe there is a logic, I am unaware of??
It comes from the history of computer graphics where transparency is stored in an 'alpha channel'alongside red green and blue channels.
