I teach introductory R using Posit Cloud in one of my courses, and I recently contacted Posit support regarding the new AI-related features and whether they can be disabled or restricted during exams.
See https://posit.co/products/ai.
My concern is maintaining the integrity of coding assessments where students are expected to independently write R code based on templates that are provided to them. Since students may potentially access AI tools during a Posit Cloud session, I am trying to determine whether there are any current or planned options for instructors to limit or block AI-assisted coding within classroom environments, specifically relating to the new AI integrated tool in Posit Cloud.
The response I received from support was:
“Posit Cloud does not include or bundle AI features as part of the platform. However, while Posit Cloud itself doesn't provide an AI assistant, we can't guarantee that a student with their own Posit AI subscription couldn't access it in a Cloud session.”
I was encouraged to post here because the product team and other educators may have insight into how this issue is being approached.
For those teaching with Posit Cloud:
- How are you handling exams or other coding assessments with the new integrated AI tool?
- What settings or workflows are available to monitor or restrict student use of the new integrated AI tool for the purposes of maintaining academic rigor and integrity?
- Would there be particular websites/URLs that could be blocked that would restrict the use of the integrated AI tool during exam times, when tools like Respondus Lockdown Browser are also used?
I would appreciate any guidance or recommendations.
