I am interested in the connection between language and other systems, as well as in research methods. My PhD studies how conceptual processing is supported by linguistic and 'embodied' brain systems. Research has suggested that when we read or listen to a word, our brains produce a first level of meaning based on common relationships among words (e.g, 'transport' - 'move'). Subsequently, this meaning is further qualified by sensory, motor, and affective brain regions. I investigate how this interplay of systems is influenced by people's own characteristics ('individual differences'). I utilise multiple methods, such as response times, corpus analysis, electroencephalography, and transcranial magnetic stimulation. My interests extend to statistics, open science and programming.
