Biography
My name is Harmon Grey. I'm a moderately proficient Data Science & DevOps hobbyist working their down to systems level languages. R was my first language, but I also work across Python, Julia, shell scripting, and am currently learning C/C++, Rust, and htmx. I have an unfortunate chronic aversion to JavaScript.
I primarily work in social sciences with essential statistical modelling. I also do freelance work in geographic information systems, natural language processing, network graphs, and writing papers about using these methods. I am passionate about the "bridging the gap" initiative between public, private, and security perspectives on human rights, disinformation, harm reduction, digital ecology and corporate accountability.
Current Projects
In my spare time, you might find me perusing the R source code and learning it's deep internals.
I am currently learning C/C++, Rust, and htmx to see if there are any improvements that could be made in the R source code in these languages. R still mostly uses .cpp ad external libraries and I'm intrigued by the possibilities of Rust.
Additional slow-burn projects include:
-
Developing time-series based statistical methodologies for network node/edge in studies on social media.
-
Categorization and detection of subversive strategic narratives using NLP and using (ethical) AI for batch inference of statistical analysis on large data sets.
-
Pioneering quantitative and qualitative digital ecology methodologies.
-
Rewriting the R source code in Rust as a slow burn (10-15 year) modernization of the language.
-
Avoiding burnout.
