In March 2026 I wanted to migrate an app from shinyappsio to Posit Connect Cloud, because it should fix one frustrating issue I'm having with shinyappsio (custom domains on shinyappsio use iframe, which is messy for cookies).
But I was not able to do the migration yet. I spoke with Posit about it, and they told me that the 3 things that I'm currently doing with shinyappsio are not yet supported in Connect Cloud. I'm wondering if they are supported yet.
On Connect Cloud, I can't figure out how to register the account programatically, I can only see how to register the account using interactive browser-based authentication. I was looking for something parallel to rsconnect::setAccountInfo()
We currently deploy an app on every pull request, and the name of the app is dynamic based on the pull request number. This is one reason why we cannot use the deploy-from-github functionality, and instead need to do it programatically (for example, a PR #40 will deploy an app called myapp_40)
When a PR is closed, we programatically terminate the app, which doesn't seem to be currently supported.
Hi, here are some alternatives that might work for you.
Instead of rsconnect::setAccountInfo you could use rsconnect::connectCloudClientCredentials to provide credentials for a Posit Connect Cloud Account non-interactively.
rsconnect::deployApp can take an "appName" parameter which will set the title of the content in Connect Cloud
unfortunately, this one is still a gap. We have an issue on our backlog to address this
Hope that helps. i'll leave a not to this thread on the last issue so we know to update it when the delete functionality is added.
I would be interested in an update on this as well. The three requirements seem fairly important for CI/CD workflows:
Programmatic authentication/account registration, similar to rsconnect::setAccountInfo().
Creating deployments programmatically with dynamic app names, such as myapp_40 for PR #40.
Programmatically deleting/terminating the deployment when the PR is closed.
If Connect Cloud now supports these through an API or rsconnect, it would make migration from shinyapps.io much more practical for automated PR-based deployments.
