Hi,
My R Shiny app takes about 8 seconds to become usable on Connect Cloud. It uses DuckDB with a remote read-only database. I publish from my local project using rsconnect, rather than through GitHub (if that matters).
I tested opening it 10 times in Chrome over Ethernet, with NordVPN and Nord protection features turned off. Each test started a new server worker:
- Controls became usable after a median of 8.11 seconds (range 7.71–8.86).
- The initial loading-page response finished after a median of 3.75 seconds, followed by an automatic reload.
- Server-side data initialization took a median of 2.11 seconds. The server initialization time is included in the overall wait.
I’ve tried changing when the map initializes, precomputing lookup data, and bundling DuckDB’s httpfs extension, but I just haven’t been able to figure out where the delay is coming from.
What would you check next? I’m trying to understand how much of the wait is Connect Cloud starting the server worker, the app initializing, or the browser displaying everything. I can share the startup code and more details about how I tested it.
Thanks!
