Getting connected @ rstudio::conf 2018: before, during and after

Right on!
Although, I couldn't care less about Florida! After living in the Pacific Northwest for a few year, I feel like I'm in captivity here in Jacksonville! lol

@Kathy Just wanted to make sure you knew that the conference this year is in San Diego. During the 2017 conference, San Diego was the winner for 2018 (small sample) in the poll.

LOL! I sure hope no one just shows up in Orlando expecting a conference "same as last year" :joy:

I was just telling @taras that I was his neighbor ( he is in Jax and I'm in Orlando)
I knew that the conference was in San Diego.

Hi everyone! Iā€™m Praer  Iā€™m a biologist/academic, originally from Thailand, but currently living in Germany. Iā€™m really really new to programming and just found out I can attend rstudio::conf! I'll be traveling alone (to the US for the first time), attending a tech conference for the first time and a little shy, so thanks @taras for starting this thread!

You used to be able to search 'Timelines' on Twitter and get lists, but I can't find it anymore

This Google search kiiiiiiind of works...

site:twitter.com/*/lists blahblahblah

I think it search tweets within lists, rather than list names, though

Yeah, a bunch of their list search stuff has been deprecated, and it's highly annoying :triumph:! I don't use any special Twitter apps, though, so it's definitely possible there's a way I'm not aware of.

Coming down from Canada, so I am certainly looking to connect throughout the week! I am a fairly new R user, got hooked during my Master's thesis at Carleton University, and now I work for Environment Canada in Ottawa doing research and analysis for Canadian river systems. Very excited to make new connections and learn more skills. I'll be on the lookout for apps/social media connections too

See you there! Feel free to say hi if you see me or recognize anyone from their userpics (damn, I should update mine I guess): this is a very open and warm community!

Hi @mfairbro, I am coming from Victoria, BC and work with the BC Government on environmental analysis and reporting (including river flow). It would be great to connect!

Displaced Canadian here, currently living in North Carolina. I worked in environmental science (surface waters for EPA in Oregon, graduate work on air pollution in Vancouver, BC) before selling my soul to Pharma. Nice to see some folks from my home country will be attending. Let's politely educate the American attendees on how Canadians actually pronounce the word "about". See you at the conference!

Sounds great, @stephhazlitt! Looking forward to it.

Hey all. I'll be coming from the NYC area. I work at a non-profit, analyzing education finance data and making too many web apps. You can find me at all the Shiny/Programming-related sessions. Anyone else here working in non-profits or public policy?

@anon41669790 - Hey - I'm in the NYC area and currently work for a non-profit supporting autism research. Prior to non-profit work I was in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics department at MSKCC doing cancer research. I'll most likely be at most of the Shiny sessions as well.

@anon41669790 Hi, I am coming from Maryland and currently working in a non-profit research organization, focused on immunology innovation research as a data analyst. I work mostly using R. I'm attending this conference for exploring new skills. My first time attending Rstudio conference, very excited!

Hey all, look forward to meeting you all next week! I'm coming from Phoenix and work as a Wildlife Specialist at the Arizona Game and Fish Department. I work in the Arizona Natural Heritage Program, where we are the central repository for data about rare and endangered species in the state. I'm so excited to attend this conference! I've been using R extensively to automate and improve our workflow, and built a Shiny app which is turning out to be a super useful tool for our program as well as others in the department. I'll be attending the Shiny training and looking forward to learning lots more about Shiny and the tidyverse in general!

On a side-note, I'm looking to squeeze in some time to do some rock climbing. Any climbers out there interested in hitting up a climbing gym in the area?

Hey, I am an ex-New Yorker and currently in Tennessee working as a health policy data analyst in academia. First time attending RStudio conf as well and will also focus on Shiny. See you all in two or three days!

Wow, ex-New Yorker in TN... I wonder how that feels, man...

BTW, you all, don't forget to make sure your profile picture looks like you in IRL!
I, for one, have realized I changed too much and had to update the profile picture here, on Twitter, and in the conference app.

Hi, I do Human Resources analytics for a financial institution in San Francisco. Over the past year, our team has really pushed forward with R as our #1 tool. I am really interested in text analytics, particularly all the great new work being done with Keras in R. I am super excited to head down to San Diego to meet you fine folks!
