Entire macOS Desktop disappeared after clicking Delete in RStudio Files pane

Hello,

I would like to report a very serious issue that happened while using RStudio Desktop on macOS.

I am a Master’s student using RStudio for my dissertation.

While working on a new RStudio Project, I accidentally clicked the Delete button in the Files pane. I intended to delete only a newly created folder inside the project directory.

However, instead of deleting only that folder, my entire macOS Desktop disappeared within a few seconds.

Every file and folder stored on my Desktop was removed.

I immediately checked the Trash, but it was empty.

I also checked Finder and confirmed that my Desktop folder had become completely empty.

My Desktop was not synchronized with iCloud Drive.

I contacted Apple Support and spent several hours with both an Apple Store Genius and an Apple Senior Advisor. They remotely inspected my Mac and unfortunately confirmed that they were unable to recover the files.

I would like to ask whether this behaviour is expected, or whether this could indicate a bug in RStudio’s Files pane.

If there are any logs, diagnostic information, or additional details that would help your team investigate this incident, I would be happy to provide them.

Thank you very much.
